Topics include: Thanksgiving, an overdose of Video Prozac, Listener Emails, fatness, our jobs, “Just the Headline,” who to follow on Twitter, voicemails, a VHS pick, the possible Flowers/Wargames connection, TMU, and more.
Also, Ben debuts a new segment called “Dude, That’s Not a Word,” and we set the wheels in motion for DEATH POOL 2010!
Big ups to the 86 voters in our “have you ever touched a dead body” poll. The verdict: 34 people said they have and 40 said they have not (which is closer than I would have guessed). Only 12 of you jackasses voted “Biblically?”
We’re taking next week off, Listener, but keep your ear to the ground. We’re still gonna make some noise…

“Bolth” is how Howard Stern says “boss” when he’s making fun of Baba Booey.

the best part is this morning while i was listening i hit a GIANT like the size of my car tumbleweed got 70 on the freeway and it just stuck to the front of my car and i just laughed hysterically and pulled over and took it out… i should have taken a picture… it was right when ben was talking about him and herald racing back to the truck..

dudes… that’s totally Flowers! especially the outside shot – notice the little white bricks on the right (43rd St) … if i’m not mistaken, those are still there – let alone the monstrous windows! and from the interior, what is now the little elevated alcove to the left of the bar (as you face it) – is proportionate to the wall/window space in the movie.
nice find!

A few comments regarding the music this week:
A. Thank you for playing my FAVORITE fat people/elephant song twice!
2. Since you played my fav song twice, I will excuse the Beyonce nonsense.
D. I hope the closing Mountain Goats song was not a “happy aniversary” song for me.

Yes I ONE year ago… Last year ago I just got back from a Seattle and had my tour of Studio A. I think my kid Jack had a nap in the studio. Dudes the show was rad. and I am trying to get people to listen to your show. but I have found people who don’t know what a podcast is just don’t get it. I may burn a show to a cd to give to them. perhaps the only thing more annoying than the use of fictitious words is the use of the wrong word… as demonstrated in Boondock Saints (*achem* for which a sequel is on the horizon…)
Detective Dolly: So what’s the symbology there?
Paul Smecker: Symbology? Now that Duffy has relinquished his “King Bonehead” crown, I see we have an heir to the throne! I’m sure the word you were looking for was “symbolism.” What is the ssss-himbolism there? Mr. Popadopolis.
Detective Dolly: Hey, no one’s gotten my name right before.
Paul Smecker: Well, I guess that’s because I’m an expert IN *pause* Nameology.

You wouldn’t. You also wouldn’t know a good time if it sat on your face.

I’m pretty sure there’s an exterior shot of Flowers at some time in “Wargames” as well, I recognized the sign when I started going to UW right away.

RAYDOG!! What’s up, man?
Yes, the accompanying visuals that the Chariots music gave me during that bit (Ben running wildly in slo-mo, packages flying this way & that, narrowly avoiding one pedestrian collision after another, while a sinister black man slowly “races” a UPS truck down a narrow city street) might be worth the price of the whole episode.

i finally clicked the wargames/flowers link, and my opinion is, there is no way that place is flowers. unless flowers used to be in another location, and they moved it to the ave later… hmm… the street is all wrong. not only is it going up hill to the south, but there are just a bunch of trees and no businesses. in old pics of the ave, there are businesses there, even back toward the 1920s.
on the other hand, you CAN get a t-shirt with the name of the arcade on it, “20 grand palace” here– http://spoilers.spreadshirt.com/spoilers-20-grand-palace-t-shirt-A2056115
proving that, although that arcade isn’t flowers, there are t-shirts made for EVERYTHING.
