Had to share a thought I’ve been discussing for a few years now:

I firmly believe Jesus was a real person. However, I also understand that at the time, education was lacking for pretty much everyone except royalty and an exceptional few… maybe Jesus had a hard time connecting with people because he was operating on a higher level of intelligence than those who were following him.

Don’t you think the problem with religion is that from the moment the word was spoken, people were taking the words literally when they were meant to be figurative? Maybe, out of ignorance (not derogatory, just plain ol – they didn’t know better) and an inability to communicate on an effective level with one whose intelligence obviously surpassed the common man, maybe they just didn’t understand what was being taught to them because they got all hung up on the words being used.

I mean, we only have so many words… and even through the use of words, we often lose the meaning of the message because the words (which are only symbols) mean something different to every person who uses them. So we get all caught up in the words being used and not their overall message… for centuries these words have been twisted and “interpreted” by scores of people, causing the words to change meaning over time… never entirely reflecting the original message.
